Sealcoating

Sealcoating is the best and most cost-efficient way to protect and extend the life and health of your asphalt.

Asphalt is a porous material and not only can be damaged by environmental conditions like sunlight, rain, and ice, but also by other destructive elements such as road salt and chemicals, like oil and gasoline. Over the course of Michigan's ever-changing seasons, your driveway is constantly exposed to harsh environmental elements. From 15 degrees with a foot of ice and snow to 90 degrees and beaming sunshine. Over time you may notice cracks in your driveway or a change in the pavement coloring from a rich black, to a gray or brown color. This is the direct result of these harsh environmental conditions and will shorten the life of your pavement.

Sealcoat is a protective layer for your pavement. Think of it as a winter coat for the cold days, sunscreen for the hot days, a raincoat to help stop the damaging effects of water, oxidation, and petroleum derivatives, such as oil or gas. Sealcoating your driveway on a regular basis will help lessen these damaging effects and help prolong the life of your pavement. HD Sealcoating and Paving recommends sealcoating your asphalt every 2 to 3 years, depending on the condition of your asphalt. Over sealcoating can lead to flaking.
